چکیده

In this paper we develop a simple analytic characterization of the steady state throughput, as a function of loss rate and round trip time for a bulk transfer TCP ow, i.e., a ow with an unlimited amount of data to send. Unlike the models in [6, 7, 10], our model captures not only the behavior of TCP's fast retransmit mechanism (which is also considered in [6, 7, 10]) but also the e ect of TCP's timeout mechanism on throughput. Our measurements suggest that this latter behavior is important from a modeling perspective, as almost all of our TCP traces contained more timeout events than fast retransmit events. Our measurements demonstrate that our model is able to more accurately predict TCP throughput and is accurate over a wider range of loss rates.

Modeling network coded TCP throughput: a simple model and its validation

We analyze the performance of TCP and TCP with network coding (TCP/NC) in lossy wireless networks. We build upon the simple framework introduced by Padhye et al. and characterize the throughput behavior of classical TCP as well as TCP/NC as a function of erasure rate, roundtrip time, maximum window size, and duration of the connection. Our analytical results show that network coding masks rando...

Modeling queuing dynamics of TCP: a simple model and its empirical validation

Understanding queuing dynamics of TCP is important for correct router buffer sizing as well as for optimizing the performance of the TCP protocol itself. However, modeling of buffer content dynamics under TCP has received relatively little attention given its importance. Commonly used queuing models are based on overly simplistic assumptions about the packet arrival process. As a consequence, t...

Modeling TCP throughput: An elaborated large-deviations-based model and its empirical validation

In today’s Internet, a large part of the traffic is carried using the TCP transport protocol. Characterization of the variations of TCP traffic is thus an important issue, both for resource provisioning and Quality of Service purposes. However, most existing models are limited to the prediction of the (almost-sure) mean TCP throughput and are unable to characterize deviations from this value. I...

Novel consensus quantitative structure-retention relationship method in prediction of pesticides retention time in nano-LC

In this study, quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) methodology employed for modeling of the retention times of 16 banned pesticides in nano-liquid chromatography (nano-LC) column. Genetic algorithm-multiple linear regression (GA-MLR) method employed for developing global and consensus QSRR models. The best global GA-MLR model was established by adjusting GA parameters. Three de...

TCP / IP Modeling and Validation

he modeling of TCP congestion control is an important task for improving the service provided to Internet users and the efficiency of network resource utilization. Its importance is due to the large amount of TCP traffic in the Internet: 95 percent of total bytes and 85–95 percent of total packets are of the TCP type [1]. A TCP source controls the rate of application packets as a function of th...
